Above all, save jobs
Friday, May 18, 2007 Boston Herald, Letters to the Editor
The expose of a sweatshop in Massachusetts demonstrates the need for action (“Bianco’s double ID,” May 16).
But action should not mean closing sweatshops and depriving workers of their jobs. Instead, government should require its contractors to meet fair labor standards. Our tax dollars should not subsidize sweatshops.
A positive action is for Gov. Deval Patrick to join the Governor’s Coalition for Sweatfree Procurement and Worker Rights.
